What a great time of year to introduce our new college newsletter! Northland at Work is a response to the need for keeping all staff better informed on what’s happening at Northland. In addition to providing you with a 5000-foot view of what’s being discussed and decided at various key institutional committees and work groups, we would also like to report on program, department, and even personal news and events that may be of interest to us all. We have configured the format to allow for each of you to contribute as you feel the need to share and our hope is that you contribute often. Our intent is to make this a monthly publication and will serve us well if we all participate in contributing items and artifacts in a timely way.
So just wanted to break in this newsletter with a couple items that may be of interest and add a note of well wishes and good cheer for the upcoming holidays. First, I’m pleased to report that from a 10,000-foot view, we had a very successful fall semester with respect to enrollment, student success, public relations activities, and staffing transitions. We have had relatively few student issues and no weather-related delays or closures, which is something given the cold start to our lovely winter season.
People have expressed delight over our revamped food services on both campuses and celebrated our physical plant improvements, especially the capital improvements made in EGF, as well as the smooth transition and room/office adjustments made with the addition of Head Start in TRF. All is well in St. Paul at the system office and we are diligently preparing a new biennial budget request to put in front of the newly elected Governor and many new legislators this January. The system is also engaged in an initiative named “Reimagining Minnesota State” with aspirations of developing innovations around how we provide students with a high quality, high-value education in a fiscally sustainable way. Hopefully, you have all been invited to participate in this process. I will be providing more information at the January in-service and throughout the spring as the initiative moves forward.
Please have a safe and wonderful holiday season and I look forward to seeing you all in January with renewed energy for a fresh start to a new year!
